Contemporary Archive Project (CAP) is a registered non-profit company founded in 2020. Based in KwaZulu-Natal, CAP works with photographers to develop critical thinking, support the development of new photographic work, safeguard archives, and strengthen connections between image-makers in the region.
CAP supports documentary photography as an ethical, reflective and research-driven practice. Through incubation, dialogue and creative experimentation across photography, audio-visual media, and writing, CAP encourages photographers to document the histories unfolding around them while reimagining what photography can do in the present.
At its core, CAP promotes a decolonial approach to image-making rooted in consent, care, fact-checking and critical engagement.
