“I’m drawn to the rhythm of cities, especially the parts most people rush past. My work is grounded in observation — slow, quiet and deliberate — because I believe meaning lives in the margins as much as it does in the centre of the frame. Durban, my home city, is where I’ve spent years training my eye. Not in a formal sense, but by walking, watching and waiting. I’m interested in what happens in-between things: an offramp where the city spills into itself, a vendor setting up before sunrise, a woman whose clothing seems stitched from her surroundings. These moments hum with life, dignity and story and that moves me. Rooted in realism, I don’t intervene or dramatise. My preference is to work handheld, exclusively with available light, focusing on the textures and tones that naturally occur. I’m not chasing perfection; I’m seeking presence, the stillness between movements, the beauty that exists without asking to be seen. Hand on heart, I aim to bring respect into every image. for the people, the places, the light, the noise, the silence. Rather than announce meaning, I’d rather you feel it slowly, in your own time. I’m fascinated by how people shape spaces and how spaces shape people in return. That relationship, that visual conversation, is where my work lives. For me, photography is a way to stay curious, grounded and focused. The primary message in my work is that there’s a quiet power in the everyday. You just have to stop long enough to see and feel it.”
